Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) is a prominent sports club based in Newcastle, Australia, dedicated to promoting and developing football in the region. With a strong commitment to grassroots football, NNSWF aims to create a thriving football community by providing opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels.
One of the highlights of NNSWF's involvement in the football community is the annual First Nations Football Festival, which showcases the talents of indigenous players. In 2023, NNSWF had the largest representation at the festival, with 10 teams from the region participating. This event not only celebrates the achievements of indigenous players but also fosters a sense of unity and pride within the community.
NNSWF also recognises and honours its senior referees through the Senior Referee Awards Evening. This event acknowledges the exceptional work and achievements of referees who officiate in the NNSWF premier Competitions. By hosting such an event, NNSWF aims to promote the importance of fair play and respect for officials within the football community.
The club takes pride in nurturing young talents like Clare Wheeler, a junior player who recently made her debut for the CommBank Matildas after a year-long hiatus. By providing a platform for young players to showcase their skills, NNSWF aims to inspire and support the next generation of football stars.
Additionally, NNSWF celebrates the achievements of local players who have had the opportunity to represent their hometown teams at a professional level. Ryan Scott, a player for the Newcastle Jets, fulfilled his childhood dream of playing for his local team after working hard to make it to the big leagues.
Importantly, NNSWF is committed to leaving a lasting legacy for football in New South Wales. The club has received over $3. 2 million from the NSW Football Legacy Fund, awarded as a result of the successful FIFA Women's World Cup 2023TM hosted by Australia. These funds have been used to support more than 90 community football projects, providing new facilities and participation opportunities for aspiring players.
With a focus on developing young talents, supporting referees, and investing in grassroots football, Northern NSW Football plays a vital role in nurturing the football community in Newcastle and beyond.
