Lum Reserve Tennis Club Incorporated (LRTC) is a tennis club located in Lum Reserve, Wheelers Hill, in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. The club was created by its members and is affiliated with Tennis Victoria, Waverley District Tennis Association (WDTA), Metro Masters Tennis Association, and has an Australian Business Number (ABN) of 64 492 587 669 Inc. LRTC offers various competitions for both senior and junior players. The Senior Competition is held on Saturday afternoons and currently has two teams. If anyone is interested in forming a team in either the Waverley or VTA Pennant Competition, they are encouraged to contact the club.
The Junior Competition takes place on Saturday mornings and consists of teams participating in the Waverley Tennis (WDTA) Competition. The competition offers a range of gradings, allowing players of all levels, from beginners to more advanced abilities, to participate. The WDTA has two playing seasons, Winter and Summer, with a break over the Christmas holiday period. Depending on the number of teams entered, some “home games” may be played at outside courts.
Parents are expected to contribute by transporting team members to outside courts and supervising matches at Lum Reserve. Team rosters are provided at the beginning of the season, outlining when and where teams will be playing and when parental support is required. A separate playing fee is applicable each season per player, in addition to the membership fee. All players must be financial members of Lum Reserve Tennis Club Inc.
And be registered with Tennis Victoria, which is included with Club membership.
For those interested in playing in the Midweek Competition, Ladies play on Thursday mornings in the WDTA Competition, while Men play on Wednesday mornings in the WDTA Competition and Thursday afternoons in the Metro Masters Competition (for players aged 50 and over).
Night competitions are also available at LRTC. The club currently participates in the WDTA Monday night ladies' competition. Additionally, Lum Reserve Tennis Club runs two in-house competitions on Tuesday and Thursday nights. These competitions are unisex and follow a graded 'challenge ladder' format, where players are ranked from strongest down.
Each night, players are grouped into groups of 4 or 6, with each player having one opponent for the night. Winners move up the ladder, while losers move down. The season winner is the player who secures the top spot on the final night of the season. Tuesday nights are dedicated to doubles only, with each player playing two 8-game sets.
On Thursday nights, players participate in singles and doubles, with each player playing one 6-game singles set and two 6-game doubles sets. Both night competitions only operate during school terms. Players do not need to be members of LRTC to participate, but the playing fee is cheaper for members. For further information, individuals can contact the club via email or visit on a Tuesday or Thursday night to speak with the convenor.
Membership information and forms can be accessed on the club's website. The annual membership fees are as follows: Junior (Under 18 years) – $84. 00 for the first member and $56. 00 for subsequent members.
