Kalinda Primary School is situated on spacious grounds that boast first class facilities for just about every major sport you can think of. Our oval has recently been reconfigured so that it can host junior cricket, soccer, hockey, and AFL 9s competitions. Our stadium is regularly used for competition basketball, but can also accommodate netball, indoor volleyball and badminton, not to mention the ability to host table tennis tournaments. On top of this, Kalinda has two full sized synthetic basketball/netball courts outside, and a synthtic outdoor volleyball court.
At Kalinda, the aim of the Physical Education Programme is to equip students with the necessary skills and confidence to maintain a healthy lifestyle beyond their school days. They are encouraged to do their personal best based on goals set early in the year.
Students in Levels 1 and 2 undertake an intensive skill development programme, incorporating the fundamental motor skills, including throwing and catching, two-handed striking, kicking, dodging, jumping and leaping, to name a few. They utilise equipment suited to their age group and compete in modified games to encourage participation and fun throughout.
Kalinda students in Levels 3 and 4 develop their skills towards sports and the rules of the sports. With a view to encourage students to take up outside sporting interests, sports such as netball, AFL, soccer, basketball, and softball are taught. We also encourage the various elements of sport, including umpiring, coaching, and equipment management. Students in these levels also take part in an athletics and cross-country programme.
Level 4 students have the opportunity to trial for State sporting teams and participate in Interschool Sport. They also develop an understanding of the various fitness attributes and how they apply to various sports.
To complement this programme, Kalinda students have the opportunity to play in basketball competitions, modified cricket tournaments and a special girl’s football competition. With a new gymnasium, complete with a full sized basketball/netball court, Physical Education and Sport at Kalinda plays an integral role in the development of a well-rounded person.
