Coburg Table Tennis Club

The Coburg Table Tennis Club began in 1948 at the McDonald Reserve Clubrooms that are no longer in use. The club was named Coburg Harriers Table Tennis Club in those days and was associated with the Harriers athletic club until the early 1970s. From its early years the club was at the forefront of the sport and won the Metropolitan ‘A’ Grade Premiership on several occasions, as well as having representatives in both Victorian and Australian teams. Coburg Table Tennis Club is still one of the leading clubs in Victoria. It was the winner of the National League in 1983 and winner of several ‘A’ Grade Premierships in the 80s and 90s. It continues to provide many Victorian and Australian representatives. In 1988 Coburg player, Nadia Bisiach, became one of the first players to represent Australia in Table Tennis at the Olympics. In 1999 Jeff Plumb qualified to represent Australia at the Olympics in 2000. In 1997 Brett Clarke became Australian Men’s Singles Champion and with Jeff Plumb in 1998 Australian Men’s Doubles Champions. In 2007 Trent Carter became the first Australian junior male to win an international title and also played off in the World Junior Championships. In December 1983 the present clubrooms were completed, giving Coburg an international class facility on Murray Road. As well as being involved at the top level of the sport, the Club caters for and encourages all levels of player, whether you would like to play socially, become a competition player or play at the Olympics.
