Goolwa District Pony Club is located on Washington Street, Goolwa, South Australia. Goolwa PC is a small club of around 20 riders. Despite the small number of riders the club encourages riders to sit for their certificates to at least C level. The club has produced many riders that have ridden nationally, received K and B certificates, and that have ridden internationally. Goolwa District Pony Club was founded in 1980 to cater for the young riders in the Goolwa and surrounding areas. Although not a large club compared with some closer to the metropolitan area it has always been a strong club with many notable achievements. Riders from the club have previously represented the state in dressage, showjumping, eventing, mounted games and camp drafting. Additionally five riders from the club have represented Australia in the Inter Pacific competition held biannually with one rider chosen from each state. One rider from the club has also represented Australia at the Olympic Games and World Championships. Despite Goolwa Pony Club’s proud competitive history, in recent times the club has become more focused on the family aspect of pony club. The emphasis is on teaching young people to ride correctly and care for their horses and ponies in a safe, happy and fun environment. Riders of all ages and abilities are catered for and encouraged to participate at their own level in a variety of equestrian activities.
