To strive for success both on and off the field.
The Goodwood Baseball Club, founded in 1889, holds the prestigious title of being the oldest baseball club in South Australia. With 19 Division 1 leadingships under their belt, including recent wins in the 2000, 2003, and 2006 seasons, the Club has a rich history of success. The Indians clubrooms and playing fields, known as the Gill Langley Sports Centre, have been located at Mortlock Park in Colonel Light Gardens since 1973.
One of the key aspects that sets Goodwood Baseball Club apart is their strong ties to the local community. The club offers Junior, Peewee, Teeball, and Senior Programmes, fostering a love for the sport from a young age. The Club takes pride in being a true “Family Ball Club,” with a large junior membership and strong support from their families.
Goodwood Baseball Club has a strong presence not only at the local level but also on the state and national stage. Many players from the club have represented both South Australia and Australia at various levels. Several players have also been a part of the South Australian Sports Institute baseball programme and the Major League Baseball Academy. Notably, Mr.
Ron Sharpe, a member of the Club, is the only Australian player ever to be inducted into the Helms Athletics Association Hall of Fame. Additionally, John Challinor (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Darren Fidge (Minnesota Twins) were the first South Australian professional baseball players to venture to the USA, and Stefan Welch has recently joined the New York Mets organisation.
Goodwood Baseball Club takes great pride in its rich history and will continue to strive for success both on and off the field. With a welcoming and inclusive environment, the Club welcomes new players to come and try out at any of their training sessions. Whether you are a passionate player or a dedicated supporter, Goodwood Baseball Club provides an excellent platform for anyone interested in being a part of the baseball community in Adelaide.
