The North Sydney Rebels Gridiron Club is a prominent sports club based in Sydney, Australia. As a member of Gridiron NSW, the club boasts teams representing Mens, Womens, and Colts in the Gridiron NSW state competition. The club was founded in 2014 by former club president Stephen Armstrong. A native of Sydney's Northern Beaches, Armstrong played football in Western Australia for the Perth Blitz before returning home to New South Wales. After a season with the UNSW Raiders, Armstrong decided to start his own football club that would represent his local area. With the support of Scott Davoren, a former player for the North Western Predator, the Northern Sydney Rebels Gridiron Club was born.
Since its inception, the club has experienced remarkable growth and achievements. In its first season, the men's team made history by being the first team in Gridiron NSW history to record a win. In the following years, the club has consistently made playoff appearances, narrowly missing out on a spot in the prestigious Waratah Bowl in 2017. The Rebels have also dedicated themselves to developing successful colts and women's programmes, achieving the same level of success and recognition.
Throughout its history, the club has reached several significant milestones. In 2016, the Rebels launched their Colts Programme, providing opportunities for players aged 16 to 19 years. The club also expanded its reach by introducing two local teams for juniors aged 9 to 15 years. Additionally, the Rebels established their first women's team, which quickly became a competitive force.
In 2020 and 2022, the women's team secured the Opal Bowl Championship, solidifying their status as champions in their category. The men's team also clinched the renowned Waratah Bowl Championship in 2019.
As the Rebels continue to grow and excel, they maintain a strong focus on community and the development of gridiron in the Northern Sydney region.
