Double Bay Sailing Club is a renowned sports club located in Sydney, Australia. The club's main focus is Laser sailing, boasting the largest fleet of ILCA dinghies in the country. With over 50 sailors participating every week, ranging from beginners to seasoned state, national, and world champions, Double Bay Sailing Club is committed to providing an exceptional sailing experience.
The club conducts racing activities on the picturesque Sydney Harbour, with races held on Saturday afternoons from August to April, Wednesday evenings from October to April, and Sunday mornings from May to July. Safety is of utmost importance to the club, and they ensure this by having three support boats on hand at all times and offering regular training sessions for all members.
Managed and operated entirely by volunteers, Double Bay Sailing Club is housed in a historic timber building situated in Steyne Park, Double Bay. The club welcomes members from all walks of life who share a passion for sailing and are dedicated to the improvement and enjoyment of the club. The club fosters an inclusive culture that values diversity and promotes a respectful environment where friendships are formed.
Double Bay Sailing Club prides itself on creating a warm and friendly atmosphere both on and off the water. Members not only engage in exhilarating sailing activities but also forge lasting friendships. Many members own their own laser boats and participate in races on Saturdays during the summer and Sundays in winter.
For those interested in becoming a member, the club offers various membership options. Visitors are encouraged to drop by the clubhouse before racing on Saturdays or Sunday mornings to explore the facilities and meet the members. Prospective members can also test the waters and sail with the club before committing to membership. If you have your own boat, you can bring it to the clubhouse or join the club on the harbour.
Alternatively, you can hire a club boat and race with them three times before membership becomes mandatory.
Double Bay Sailing Club also provides a Learn to Race programme during summer, where individuals who have prior sailing experience or have sailed an ILCA/Laser before can hire a club boat or bring their own and participate in racing sessions.
