Baulkham Hills Physical Culture Club is a sports club located in Sydney, Australia. Affiliated with the Edith Parsons School of Physical Culture, the club is a not-for-profit organisation, making it an affordable sport for girls and ladies aged 3 years and above. The club's instructress is Mrs. Debbie West, who has been involved in the sport since 1961.
Physie, as the sport is commonly known, combines marching with choreographed exercise and dance routines performed to modern music. It offers a fun way to develop good posture, strength, fitness, flexibility, and coordination, while also forming great friendships. Each year, club members are taught a new syllabus of routines specific to their age categories. These routines are judged in both individual and team competitions, providing an opportunity for members to showcase their skills and foster a sense of belonging and loyalty to the club.
The club holds state grand finals for each age group in November of each year, with the winner of each age group being named the Champion Girl. Baulkham Hills Physical Culture Club offers lessons every Monday and Friday night, and for further information about the club, interested individuals can contact Mrs. Debbie West via email at debphysie@hotmail. Com or on her mobile at 0411 437 468.
Baulkham Hills Physical Culture Club was established in 1999 by Debbie West and her sister Leanne Henderson to meet the increasing demand for Physie lessons in the Hills area of Sydney. Although Leanne later left the club, Debbie continued to teach and grow the club, now assisted by her daughter Courtney. Since its inception, the club has grown from just 11 members to over 135 members.
Debbie West began her Physie career in 1961 as a 5-year-old at the Fairfield Club when the Edith Parsons School of Physical Culture was first formed. She was trained by Mrs. Anne Johanson and Mrs. Norma Sullivan.
Debbie and her mother, Margaret, were among the first students enrolled in the club. When Mrs. Johanson's health deteriorated, she asked Debbie to assist her with teaching. After Mrs.
Johanson's retirement in 1981, Debbie became the full-time instructress for Fairfield City Physical Culture Club, a role she still holds today.
Similar to the Fairfield club, Baulkham Hills Physical Culture Club has gained a reputation as a well-respected club within the Edith Parsons School. In addition to providing professional teaching and competition opportunities, the club also encourages family bonding and support systems. It offers “Mother/Daughter Moments” throughout the physie year, enabling families from multiple generations to participate in similar activities. The club also organises mother/daughter camps every second year and various social opportunities for the extended family.
Debbie West takes great pride in the achievements of all her club members and the sense of community that has been fostered within Baulkham Hills Physical Culture Club.
