Aquatic Safety Training Academy, proudly operated by Royal Life Saving, is a sports club located in Sydney, Australia. With a commitment to providing quality learn to swim programmes, great service, and state-of-the-art facilities, the Academy aims to foster a learning-driven environment and promote water safety.
As Australia's leading water safety educator, Royal Life Saving has a strong history in water safety and has been at the forefront of aquatic education for over 125 years. In partnership with the Department of Education (NSW), Royal Life Saving invested in key infrastructure to provide aquatic facilities to the local Sydney markets.
The flagship venue, located in Seven Hills, has been operating since 2010 on the grounds of Hills Sports High School. The Academy is now expanding and will be opening a second purpose-built facility in Eastwood in the summer of 2020.
The Aquatic Academy offers a range of services, including learn to swim and survive programmes for individuals aged 6 months to adults. Swimming training and fitness squads are also available for those looking to improve their skills and enhance their fitness levels.
To further promote safety, the Academy offers resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid courses and updates, as well as pool lifeguard and vocational industry career pathways, including Aquatic Technical Operations. Swim teacher courses are available for those interested in obtaining an RLS Swim Teacher Licence.
Additionally, the Aquatic Academy collaborates with Rainbow Club Australia to provide disability initiatives and ensure inclusivity within their programmes.
The Academy houses two pools at its locations in Seven Hills and Denistone East. The Seven Hills facility is situated on the grounds of Hills Sports High School at 78 Best Road, Seven Hills, NSW 2147. The Denistone East facility is located on the grounds of Denistone East Public School at Lovell Road, Eastwood, NSW 2122.
The CEO of Royal Life Saving emphasises the importance of water safety and drowning prevention. The Aquatic Safety Training Academy was built to conduct vital research and develop initiatives to address drowning incidents in NSW. With support from the Federal and State Government, the Academy aims to reduce the state drowning toll by 50% by 2020.
The Academy's goal is to educate and train individuals in areas such as pool lifeguarding, swimming instruction, first aid, pool operations, and advanced life support. By providing access to training and education, the Academy aims to empower the communities of Western Sydney to be actively involved in preventing injury and harm in and around aquatic environments.
Royal Life Saving has developed benchmarks in consultation with government and industry leaders to guide children's aquatic behaviour at key life stages. The Academy encourages everyone to become a lifesaver and emphasises the importance of learning safe aquatic rules and behaviours from an early age.
By joining Aquatic Safety Training Academy, individuals can not only enhance their swimming skills but also contribute to creating safer aquatic environments and preventing drowning incidents.
